The oddly named Frogfish

Posted by Pastor Ron Saturday, November 26, 2011 8:00:00 AM
The oddly named Frogfish It doesn't look like either a frog or a fish. It just sits there not moving anything except a little fishing lure dangling from its forehead. Why move ~ dinner will be served shortly. When food does present itself (small fish attracted to the forehead lure) that mouth opens so explosively... read more

Sportin' quite a rack there.

Sportin' quite a rack there. Good thing Decorated Warbonnets are not hunted for the number of points on their rack. A little bolder than the tiny Mosshead the Decorated Warbonnet still needs to be approached gently or you just get a shot from behind. Thank you. Come again. read more

Get your Warbonnet on!

Posted by Pastor Ron Thursday, November 24, 2011 8:00:00 AM
Get your Warbonnet on! Cuter than a bug's ear (whatever that means) these little Mosshead Warbonnets are often found poking their heads out of a hole. Much smaller than the decorated Warbonnet (tomorrow's Fish Face) they are also very shy but if approached slowly they will mug for a picture or two. read more

Purple Cab

Posted by Pastor Ron Wednesday, November 23, 2011 8:00:00 AM
Purple Cab Colors are sometimes hard to distinguish underwater... especially in the low visibility we often have here in the PNW. But with fill flash on a camera stuffed into the face of a fish sometimes you get a surprise! Looking at those eyes makes me think that I left just in time. But then... read more

Red Cab

Posted by Pastor Ron Tuesday, November 22, 2011 8:00:00 AM
Red Cab I had been diving for several decades in Puget Sound before I saw my first Red Cabezon. At first I thought something had gone wrong with my eyes! Was it just so angry that it turned red? Evidently there is such a thing as a red cabezon and I've started seeing young ones too. read more

Attacked by an angry Cabbie!

Posted by Pastor Ron Monday, November 21, 2011 8:00:00 AM
Attacked by an angry Cabbie! They look mean and at times they are downright cranky. When guarding eggs they are my least favorite fish. Being attacked by an angry Cabbie is no fun especially in low visibility water where you can't even see them coming. My very least favorite experience with them is being tag teamed ... read more

There's something fishy about these posts!

Posted by Pastor Ron Sunday, November 20, 2011 8:00:00 AM
There's something fishy about these posts! And thus begins a couple of weeks of Fish Faces. Most of these pictures were taken with a 5mp Pentax Optio in a small underwater housing. First up ~ Cabezon! Down right cranky at times, they will attack if approach too closely. In the beginning I took mostly pictures of fish tails.... read more

Oh Yes!!! For step by step photos with captions click on the picture above. This is a PTL update on my Oh No! post last month where the filter ring on the front of my Nikon lens was damaged. I ordered the parts from Nikon and repaired it myself. Update: As of July 13, 2012 Nikon USA is no... read more

Hey Fish Face ~ yeah you!

Posted by Pastor Ron Saturday, November 19, 2011 8:00:00 AM
Hey Fish Face ~ yeah you! I need a break from daily posting. However Laziness + OCD is a terrible combination. What to do? I know ~ automation. For the next three weeks or so I'm going to have my computer post a daily Fish Face picture. I'll have to supply the commentary myself so this really isn't going to be... read more

There is a price to be paid

Posted by Pastor Ron Friday, November 18, 2011 8:00:00 AM
There is a price to be paid Seeing the little cross adorned with remembrances there on the rocks, I positioned myself and waited for the moment. A surfer approached the entry point and paused, head bowed. When it comes to the things we love, there is a price to be paid. The cross reminds those who love to surf... read more
