125' deep and she doesn't sleep

She doesn't sleep because she is constantly tending her eggs and and keeping them clean and fresh by washing them with a gentle stream of water. She doesn't leave to feed herself either.

This will go on for months and sometime this fall the eggs will hatch... and she will die. (Her mate has already died.) The 3~5 year life cycle of the Giant Pacific Octopus is a wonder both in its brevity and its self-sacrificing dedication. Such strange and wonderful creatures.

My favorite underwater animal. This one is 120'-130' deep (depending on the tide) under a sunken boat. Yesterday's dive at Mukilteo with Curt Johnson.
